President William Ruto has accused former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua of leading a campaign of division and misinformation aimed at destabilizing the country. In a statement issued Wednesday, the President said Gachagua’s recent public pronouncements are “carefully crafted to sow division, incite violence, extort and bully politicians” into joining his new political outfit.

“His daily diatribe, interspersed with vitriol, misogyny, lies, ethnic jingoism and hate are inconsistent with someone who once held a high constitutional office,” the statement read. The President took issue with Gachagua’s regular meetings with delegations at his rural home in Nyeri, saying the former DP uses the forums to attack the government under the pretext of criticizing security failures.

According to the statement, the real intention is to “divert attention away from clandestine criminal activities” allegedly being coordinated by Gachagua’s associates.Ruto further claimed that after direct attacks failed to “shake his resolve,” Gachagua had shifted strategy and “activated his sleeper cell of political accomplices from Rift Valley” to advance what he termed a nefarious plot.

He linked Wednesday’s remarks by Gachagua to “false accusations” earlier made against him by unnamed co-conspirators in Parliament and at public gatherings. On the notion of regional political kingpins, the President dismissed it as unconstitutional.

“Kingpinship is a vacuous title and the sole preoccupation of idle minds. Such a position neither exists in the Constitution nor in our socio-cultural setups,” he said.

The President urged Kenyans to be vigilant against what he called the “latest plot twist in Gachagua’s malignant influence.”He maintained that he remains focused on service delivery and will continue to engage citizens across the country.

“I remain steadfast and unwavering in discharging my duties, and when time allows, will join Wananchi in any part of the country in worship and other social activities as usual,” the statement concluded.

Gachagua has in recent days accused the administration of security lapses and economic mismanagement during his tours in Central and Rift Valley regions. His team has not yet responded to the latest accusations.
