In a statement posted on his social media platforms, Gachagua claimed the press briefing was intended to shield police officers allegedly involved in the incident while shifting blame to boda boda riders. He did not provide evidence to support the allegations.

NAIROBI, Kenya, Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has accused the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) of attempting to cover up the death of Dr. Victoria Nthunya Mutiso, issuing the allegations ahead of a planned police press conference.

“Bwana DCI, I have seen you have called a press conference to cover up the police killers of Dr Victoria Nthunya Mutiso and then fix some boda boda riders,” Gachagua said.

The former Deputy President further claimed that he had received information from officers regarding the identities of those allegedly involved and warned that he would release the details if the DCI failed to conduct what he described as a transparent investigation.

“You must name the inspector from Kikuyu Police Station, the constable from the same police station and the other constable from Karinde Police Post,” he stated.

Gachagua also alleged that officers previously attached to what he referred to as the “Nairobi Sierra killer squad” had been transferred and called on the DCI to allow them to address the media.

“Good officers have given me all the details and your days of covering up killings by police officers must come to an end,” he said.
