Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli has lashed out at Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya over his popular ‘TAWE’ movement, alleging the slogan has brought losses to farmers in the region.
Speaking at an event organized by Khwisero MP Christopher Aseka, Atwoli claimed that the continued use of the ‘TAWE’ slogan was a taboo to the Luhya nation and had contributed to maize crops drying up in Trans Nzoia.
“Slogans like ‘TAWE’ have cost the people of Trans Nzoia; their crops have dried up because of the behaviour of their Governor George Natembeya,” Atwoli alleged.
Atwoli: Luhyas Must Work With Ruto. The COTU boss said for the Mulembe Nation to get development, leaders must work closely with President William Ruto. He added that the Luhya community has united and will overwhelmingly vote for the Kenya Kwanza government.
He also took a swipe at opposition leaders for forming slogans that he said will not benefit Kenyans, urging them to instead support the government to attract development.
Atwoli Attacks Sifuna, Khalwale. Atwoli also criticized Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna over his reported presidential ambitions. He dismissed Sifuna’s fundraising activities, calling them childish and not presidential.
“Those who are telling a small boy called Sifuna to vie for the presidency are lying to him. They will leave him in the cold as they did to Raila Odinga in 2022,” Atwoli said.
He further faulted Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale for allegedly criticizing President Ruto during the burial of his late wife, Gloria Khalwale. Atwoli termed the remarks disrespectful and demanded an apology.
Aseka, Ikana Back Ruto. MPs present at the event, including Christopher Aseka and Shinyalu MP Fredrick Ikana, echoed Atwoli’s sentiments.

They said Western Kenya has witnessed unprecedented development under President Ruto, including in the health sector, and urged residents to back his re-election.
They also accused former President Uhuru Kenyatta of sponsoring the opposition to destabilize the country, urging him to stay out of active politics.
