Kakamega Homeboyz have unveiled 20 new players as the club steps up preparations for the 2026/27 Football Kenya Premier League season, with the club targeting a stronger challenge for domestic honours.

The major squad overhaul came alongside a boost in sponsorship, with long-standing partners Mozzart Bet increasing their annual financial support to the Kakamega-based club by Sh5 million. The sponsorship package now stands at Sh25 million annually, up from Sh20 million when the betting firm began supporting Homeboyz in December 2020.

The additional funding, introduced in December 2025, does not include other expenses incurred by Mozzart Bet in supporting the club, which the company estimates at between Sh3 million and Sh5 million every year.Mozzart Bet Kenya Country Manager and Country Director Saša Krneta said the company was pleased with the club’s recruitment drive.

“We are very happy and surprised about 18 new signings. I think the record has been broken today because of that number, even in the league, even nationally,” Krneta said.

Among the high-profile arrivals are Ibrahim Joshua and Charles Momanyi from Tusker, as well as former Gor Mahia assistant captain Geoffrey Ochieng.Homeboyz finished sixth in the FKF Premier League last season with 49 points, 20 points behind champions Gor Mahia.Team manager Boniface Imbenzi said the new arrivals have brought a blend of quality and experience that the club hopes will help improve its position this season.

“Ibrahim Joshua is a striker we signed from Tusker on a two-year contract. Omole, the same, signed on a two-year contract,” Imbenzi said.

He described Momanyi as a player who knows the club well, having been nurtured at Homeboyz before moving to Gor Mahia and later Tusker.“He plays in defence as a central defender and signed a two-year contract as well,” Imbenzi said.

The club has also recruited Ochieng Simidi, popularly known as Geoffrey Ochieng, from Gor Mahia.“Then there’s Ochieng Simidi (Geoffrey Ochieng) from Gor Mahia too, who was the captain at Gor. He also plays defence at left-back,” Imbenzi added.

Krneta welcomed the recruitment but said player welfare should remain central to the club’s plans, particularly timely payment of salaries.

“I am happy with the chairman when he said the most important priority will be to pay the salaries to our players, which we as a sponsor are very happy about,” he said.

Krneta added that Mozzart Bet spends approximately Sh150 million annually supporting football and other sports in Kenya.
