A controversial video allegedly showing Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa undergoing what was described as a traditional ritual has resurfaced online, reigniting public interest in an explosive 2024 extortion controversy.

Reports at the time alleged that the purported ritual was linked to efforts to secure Barasa’s victory in the 2022 Kakamega gubernatorial election.

However, the claims surrounding the footage were never independently established as fact, while the identity of the person shown in the video and the circumstances under which the footage was recorded remain subject to scrutiny.

The video resurfaced against the backdrop of the 2024 extortion case, in which allegations involving a purported witchdoctor brought renewed attention to the footage and claims surrounding it.

The renewed online circulation has consequently reopened public discussion over an episode that generated significant controversy in Kakamega politics.Neither the resurfacing of the video nor claims made alongside it should, on their own, be taken as proof of the allegations previously associated with the footage.

The governor remains entitled to due process, and any claims linking him to the alleged ritual should be treated as allegations unless independently verified or established through credible evidence.
