The Luhya community in the Nyanza region has reaffirmed its political unity and pledged to intensify its grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during the community’s Annual General Meeting at Muhoroni Stadium in Kisumu County, the newly installed Luhya community spokesperson called for unity and a common political voice, saying the community must remain focused on advancing its interests regardless of where its members live.
“I accept this honour with great pride and humility. I will not let you down. We must speak with one voice and strengthen the identity that defines us as one people,” the spokesperson said.
The spokesperson thanked the Luhya community in Nyanza for its continued loyalty and support for the ODM Party, urging members to remain steadfast as the party moves to consolidate its grassroots support across the region.
“Our people in Nyanza have demonstrated tremendous loyalty and support for ODM. We must remain steadfast and continue strengthening our grassroots structures,” he said.
The meeting, however, took a broader political turn as the community was urged to rally behind President William Ruto’s 2027 re-election bid.The spokesperson cited what he described as key deliverables by the Kenya Kwanza administration, arguing that government programmes and development initiatives were increasingly shaping the Western corridor.
“We must recognise the development taking place and ensure that our people are part of the national conversation. As we look towards 2027, we must make decisions that protect our interests and secure development for our region,” he said.
The remarks come as political alignments continue to take shape ahead of the 2027 elections, with communities and political parties seeking to strengthen their grassroots networks and influence. The Muhoroni meeting also served as a platform to reaffirm the cultural and social bonds linking Luhyas living in Nyanza, with leaders calling for greater unity and coordination.
The spokesperson’s installation was one of the key highlights of the AGM, with the new office expected to provide a stronger voice for the Luhya community in the region.
“I am deeply grateful for the trust you have placed in me. This is not merely a title; it is a responsibility. I will work with all of you to ensure our community remains united, respected and organised,” he said.
The event was attended by Kisumu County Senator Prof. Tom Ojienda, Khwisero MP Hon. Christopher Aseka, several Members of the Kisumu County Assembly and other political and community leaders. The leaders used the gathering to emphasise the importance of political organisation, community unity and strategic engagement as the country heads towards the 2027 General Election.
