Kalonzo Offers to Deputise Sifuna in 2027 Bid to Oust RutoWIPER leader Kalonzo Musyoka has opened the door to a stunning Sifuna-Kalonzo presidential ticket in 2027, saying he is ready to deputise Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna if the opposition settles on him as its flagbearer.

Kalonzo made the declaration during an interview on NTV on Monday, August 10, as pressure mounts within opposition ranks to settle on a single candidate to challenge President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election. The former Vice President said he has no problem supporting Sifuna, insisting that the opposition must do “whatever it takes” to defeat Ruto.
“This time, we are not leaving anything to chance. We have agreed that whatever it takes. Of course, I have no problem at all in supporting Sifuna,” Kalonzo said.
But Kalonzo went further, suggesting that the opposition’s unity should not be built around one individual. He said he would support Sifuna, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Eugene Wamalwa, Martha Karua or any other candidate who emerges through consensus.
“I have no problem supporting him. I have no problem supporting Gachagua,” Kalonzo said, adding that he was confident Sifuna would similarly support him if he emerged as the opposition’s presidential candidate.
The remarks could significantly reshape the opposition’s 2027 succession politics, coming at a time when Sifuna has stepped up his mobilisation across the country and openly positioned himself as a potential presidential contender.
Sifuna Tops ODM Preference PollKalonzo’s comments come days after a TIFA opinion poll placed Sifuna ahead of several opposition figures among ODM supporters.
The survey released on July 24 showed 44 per cent of ODM supporters preferring Sifuna as the party’s presidential candidate if elections were held at the time.Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i attracted 9 per cent, Kalonzo 4 per cent, while Embakasi East MP Babu Owino recorded 2 per cent.
Despite Sifuna’s strong showing among ODM supporters, President Ruto continues to command significant national support, setting the stage for what could become a fiercely contested 2027 presidential race.Sifuna has repeatedly called for opposition parties to put aside individual ambitions and unite behind a single candidate capable of defeating Ruto.
With Kalonzo now declaring that he is prepared to serve as Sifuna’s deputy, attention will turn to whether the opposition can translate the emerging political alliances into a single, formidable ticket ahead of 2027.The big question now: Could Sifuna-Kalonzo be the ticket that takes on Ruto in 2027?
