ODM party leader and Siaya Senator Dr Oburu Odinga has reportedly been hospitalised in Nairobi for the past three days, with sources within the Orange Democratic Movement telling Kenyastoday.co.ke that the veteran politician was admitted on Sunday, August 30.Sources familiar with the matter said the 82-year-old ODM leader remains under medical observation, although neither his family, the ODM party nor the hospital has issued an official public statement detailing his condition.
According to sources who spoke to Kenyastoday.co.ke, only close family members and relatives have been allowed regular access to Oburu, following instructions from his medical team. The sources further indicated that the family is considering the possibility of flying the ODM leader to the United Kingdom for specialised treatment.
However, Kenyastoday.co.ke has not independently verified the alleged travel plans.Reports circulating about the veteran politician’s admission have suggested that he may have been taken to hospital after experiencing severe fatigue.

These reports have not been independently confirmed, and the exact reason for his hospitalisation remains unclear.Oburu was last publicly seen on Saturday, August 29, when he shared images of himself playing golf and appearing to be in high spirits. It remains unclear exactly when his condition changed and when he was admitted to hospital.
Kenyastoday.co.ke has also established that several ODM officials visited the party leader in hospital on Monday, August 31, at a time when political tensions and internal divisions within the party continue to attract national attention.
The development has sparked fresh concern among ODM supporters and political allies, particularly because questions about Oburu’s health have previously circulated online. In May, manipulated images were widely shared on social media falsely claiming that the ODM leader had been hospitalised in India.
The claims were later debunked after it emerged that the images had been digitally altered. In November 2025, following the death of his brother, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, Oburu travelled to Dubai for what was described as a short sabbatical.
At the time, his son and aide, Elijah Oburu, dismissed speculation that his father was seriously ill, saying he had simply taken time away to rest.As of Tuesday morning, there had been no official statement from Oburu’s family or ODM regarding his current condition.
Kenyastoday.co.ke will continue following the matter and provide updates as more verified information becomes available.
