Residents of Shinyalu Sub-County are set to benefit from improved access to reliable water following an inspection of ongoing water projects by Kakamega County officials.

Officials from the Department of Water and Sanitation, led by Chief Officer Mariam Were, inspected the Ivihiga Water Project in Isukha East Ward and the Musembe Health Centre Water Project in Isukha Central Ward on Wednesday.

The projects are part of the county’s efforts to expand access to reliable and sustainable water services for households and public institutions.

The Ivihiga project is being implemented under the Financing Locally Led Climate Action (FLLoCA) programme and includes the installation of a 50,000-litre elevated steel water tank and solarisation of the water system.The measures are expected to strengthen water supply to Musembe Health Centre and surrounding communities while reducing reliance on conventional sources of power.

Speaking during the inspection, Chief Officer Mariam Were said the county was committed to ensuring residents have access to dependable water services.

“These projects will facilitate the connection of more households to reliable water services in line with Governor Fernandes Barasa’s water and sanitation agenda, ‘Amatsi Khumuliango,’” Were said.

She said the county would continue investing in water infrastructure to address challenges affecting communities and public facilities.The officials affirmed that the projects would improve the quality and reliability of water services while supporting climate-resilient infrastructure within the sub-county.

The FLLoCA component is particularly aimed at promoting sustainable water systems through investments such as solar-powered infrastructure.Also present during the inspection were Director of Water and Sanitation Eng. Fred Atwa and Director for Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change Anthony Munanga.
