Likuyani Member of Parliament Innocent Mugabe has rejected pressure to rally behind Former ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna, declaring that he will not mention or “sing” Sifuna’s name merely to please his constituents.
Mugabe said he would remain firmly aligned with President William Ruto, arguing that his decision to work with the Kenya Kwanza administration had enabled him to attract development projects to Likuyani.

The MP claimed that some residents were attempting to force him to follow Sifuna politically, but insisted that he would not be intimidated into abandoning his current political path.
“I will not sing Sifuna to make you happy,” Mugabe said, maintaining that his priority was to deliver development to the people of Likuyani.According to the MP, his cooperation with President Ruto has already yielded tangible benefits for his constituency, making it difficult for him to turn his back on the President ahead of the 2027 General Election.
“Ruto amefanyia watu wangu mengi and I cannot abandon him for clueless Edwin Sifuna,” Mugabe said.
Mugabe’s remarks are likely to intensify the emerging political contest in Western Kenya, where Sifuna has increasingly been positioning himself as a major voice in the region’s 2027 political debate.
The Likuyani MP maintained that politicians should be judged by their ability to deliver projects and opportunities to residents rather than by pressure to support particular political personalities.
His latest comments also underline the widening political differences within Western Kenya, with leaders facing growing pressure to declare where they stand ahead of the 2027 presidential contest.Mugabe has continued to defend his working relationship with Ruto, arguing that abandoning the President would jeopardise the development gains he says Likuyani has secured under the current administration.

The MP’s open rejection of calls to support Sifuna is expected to trigger a fresh political battle in Likuyani, particularly as rival camps intensify efforts to consolidate support across the constituency. With the 2027 elections approaching, Mugabe appears determined to maintain his alliance with Ruto, even as sections of the electorate push for him to reconsider his political position.
