A routine flight turned deadly on Friday 18th September 2026 after a light aircraft crashed in the Kipeto area of Kajiado County, killing two people on board and scattering wreckage across an open field.
The aircraft went down near the Kipeto Wind Power Project in Kajiado West Constituency, turning a routine training flight into a fatal aviation tragedy.
According to reports, the aircraft was operated by the Kenya Aviation Training School and was carrying a student pilot and a flight instructor when it crashed.
Kajiado West Sub-County Police Commander Maurine Jepkemboi confirmed the incident, saying preliminary information indicated that the aircraft came down in the hilly Kibeto area.
The crash triggered an emergency response, with security officers and responders rushing to the scene as investigators began assessing the wreckage and circumstances surrounding the accident.I
Images from the scene showed the aircraft extensively damaged, with pieces of its metal casing and other debris scattered across the dry, open terrain.
The wreckage painted a grim picture of the impact, with emergency personnel seen examining the crash site and securing the area.The aircraft reportedly came down close to the wind power plant, a major renewable-energy facility in the Kipeto area.
The circumstances that led to the crash had not immediately been established, and investigations are expected to determine what happened during the flight.
The tragedy comes as aviation authorities continue to investigate aircraft accidents and incidents across the country.
