Sacco CEO Anthony Bitinyu told the delegates that growth is everyone’s responsibility and that each of them has a part to play in bringing in new substantial members. With membership currently at around 1,600, he said, the Sacco simply isn’t big enough yet.
He asked every delegate to recruit at least one new member. He said, more people are borrowing than investing, and that needs to change.
“Members, for the Sacco to grow and be more beneficial, we have to invest more. The rate at which members are borrowing is high compared to the rate at which they are investing, so we must pull up our efforts,” he said.

He added that the Sacco will consider paying farmers on time so they, too, can invest. He also said management is working to improve facilities and staff welfare as the Sacco sets its sights on becoming one of the country’s emerging Saccos.
Ben Kangale, the County Director of Saccos in Kakamega, backed the push for more members. He said, it puts a Sacco in a stronger position to grow.He also urged the Sacco to keep up with the times by upgrading its digital systems, since so much now runs on digital tools, including USSD codes.
“For enhanced finances and Sacco growth, there should be modern technology where members can access their funds through USSD codes on their gadgets,” Kangale said.

He further suggested yearly evaluations of members, along with succession planning that every member can take part in where he agreed with the CEO on recruitment of more specialists.
“Everyone in the Sacco has the mandate to welcome another member, because all that is needed is growth,” he said.
Sacco Chairperson Danstan Mwisiahi thanked the delegates for turning up, saying their presence showed how committed they are to seeing the Sacco grow. He encouraged them to keep up the same spirit when it comes to saving, reminding them that without savings, members cannot borrow and the Sacco cannot grow.

He assured members that their concerns will be addressed and that the Sacco will be transparent at every step.
“We acknowledge your presence, as well as your savings and grievances. We will make sure everything is worked on and savings are improved,” Mwisiahi said.
