Shinyalu MP Fredrick Ikana claims opposition leaders are determined to frustrate government projects as he dismisses the ‘Wantam’ movement and predicts a smooth re-election for President William Ruto.

Shinyalu MP Fredrick Ikana has launched a blistering attack on the opposition led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, urging Kenyans to ignore the rival political camp, which he accused of having nothing meaningful to offer the country.

Ikana claimed the opposition was more interested in undermining President William Ruto’s administration than presenting an alternative development agenda, warning Kenyans against being swayed by its political messaging.

“Ignore them, they have nothing to offer,” Ikana declared, in a sharp political message directed at Sifuna and other opposition leaders.

The legislator spoke in Shinyalu Constituency during the issuing of geometrical sets and official handover of a storey building constructed through the Shinyalu National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF), where he used the occasion to defend the government’s development record and attack its critics.

Ikana alleged that the opposition’s primary objective was to frustrate Ruto’s administration by creating divisions between the President and ordinary Kenyans.

He invoked his position as a member of Parliament’s intelligence committee to reinforce his claims, saying he possessed information suggesting that the opposition intended to derail government projects.

“As a member of the intelligence committee, I have information,” Ikana said, according to the remarks delivered during the event.

However, the claims about an alleged opposition plot to sabotage government projects were not independently substantiated in the remarks provided.

The Shinyalu lawmaker maintained that he would not sit back and watch as the opposition allegedly sought to undermine the administration’s development programmes.

He insisted that leaders should be judged by what they deliver to citizens rather than the political slogans they popularise at rallies.

Ikana also turned his guns on supporters of the “Wantam” slogan, dismissing the political messaging and arguing that it would not automatically translate into electoral victory.

He maintained that Ruto’s development record would be a major factor in the next presidential election, expressing confidence that the Head of State would secure another term.“Slogans cannot win elections,” was the message underpinning Ikana’s criticism of the opposition’s political strategy.

The MP argued that the government’s projects and development initiatives would give Ruto an advantage as the country moves towards the next general election.

His remarks signal the intensifying political battle between Kenya Kwanza allies and opposition leaders, with competing camps seeking to shape public opinion over the government’s performance and the country’s political future.

The exchange also raises questions about whether development achievements, public dissatisfaction and opposition mobilisation will determine the direction of Kenya’s next electoral contest.
