President William Ruto’s aide Farouk Kibet has launched a fresh attack on retired President Uhuru Kenyatta, accusing him of meddling in active politics and attempting to undermine his successor.

Farouk told Uhuru to “retire peacefully” and respect the position of a former Head of State, arguing that his continued involvement in opposition politics risks deepening divisions in the country.

The remarks come amid renewed political tensions between Uhuru and allies of President Ruto after the former president recently spoke publicly about the 2022 presidential election and threw his support behind former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i for the 2027 race.

Farouk questioned why Uhuru was continuing to engage in active politics instead of playing what he described as the role expected of a retired president.

He accused the former president of trying to mobilise opposition figures against Ruto, including Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka.Farouk further claimed that Uhuru had previously had an opportunity to hand over political support to the late Raila Odinga but failed to secure his preferred outcome.

“Stop divisiveness in our country. We are united but you are busy destroying our country. Uhuru Kenyatta, you are jealous of Ruto and you will not succeed,” Farouk said.

He warned Uhuru that continued political involvement could have consequences for the privileges and benefits accorded to former presidents.Farouk’s latest broadside follows similar criticism from other Ruto allies, who have accused Uhuru of taking sides against the Kenya Kwanza administration.

The National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula recently told Uhuru to respect the office of a retired president and stop what he described as efforts to undermine his successor.

Farouk also turned his guns on Former ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna, dismissing the Nairobi senator’s growing presidential ambitions and arguing that the Luhya community already has an established political figure to lead its national push.

He maintained that National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula remains the leader he considers best positioned to spearhead the Luhya community’s presidential ambitions.

According to Farouk, the political succession plan after Ruto should ultimately pave the way for a Luhya president.

“After President William Ruto, a Luhya will be the president. Wetangula will take over so that the community can benefit,” he said.

Farouk further argued that Sifuna was still young and should allow more experienced leaders to take the lead. His remarks come as political activity intensifies ahead of the 2027 General Election, with Ruto allies increasingly campaigning across Western Kenya while leaders associated with the opposition build their own political networks.

Wetang’ula has previously been publicly identified by Ruto allies as a potential Luhya successor to Ruto, with Farouk himself describing him as a leader with presidential qualities.
