Speaking today after meeting stakeholders led by Kakamega CECM Peninah Mukabane, Ogutu welcomed a multi-agency meeting convened to discuss the implementation of the project, saying cooperation between stakeholders would be essential to its successful implementation.

“We believe that close collaboration between the national and county governments, regulatory institutions and host communities is critical to the successful implementation of the Isulu–Bushiangala gold project,” Ogutu said.

He emphasised the need for the company to work closely with all stakeholders to ensure the project progresses while addressing the concerns and interests of communities expected to be affected by mining operations.

The project follows exploration by Shanta Gold (K) Limited, which identified economically viable gold ore reserves in the Isulu–Bushiangala areas, raising expectations of increased investment and economic opportunities in Kakamega County.

The proposed mining venture is expected to create employment opportunities, stimulate local businesses and improve livelihoods through increased economic activity.

County Executive Committee Member for Water, Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change Peninah Mukabane said environmental protection must remain a priority as the county prepares for the next phase of the project.

“Responsible mining must go hand in hand with environmental conservation and the protection of communities living around the mining sites. We must ensure that economic development does not compromise the wellbeing of our people,” Mukabane said.
